Guest Blogger - Homemade Oatmeal Cream Pies

Hi, I'm Lauren from this blog and I'm really excited to be guest blogger on C'est Si Bon. I absolutely love Kristen's blog and was so excited when she asked me to be a guest witer. I am also equally excited that she will be bringing her fabulous style to my blog as a guest writer.

Lately, I've had a bit of a sweet tooth and oatmeal cream pies seem to really hit the spot. I especially like the idea of making my own and skipping out on all of the artificial ingredients you find in the store bought kind. I set out to make my own and since they received great reviews from friends and family I think they are worthy to share here. Hope you enjoy!

Ingredients
Makes 9-10 cookies

Cookies
1 and 1/4 cups of softened butter
1 cup of brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp molasses or honey
1 and 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour
1 tbsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 tablespoon of ground cinnamon
3 cups of uncooked quick-cooking oats

Creme Filling
7 ounce jar marshmallow creme
1/2 cup of shortening
1/3 cup of powdered sugar

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a cookie sheet and set aside.

In a bowl mix together butter and sugars until creamy. Add in eggs, vanilla extract and molasses. Mix until well blended.

In another bowl mix in baking soda, salt, cinnamon and flour. Add in oats.

In a large bowl mix together the dry and wet ingredients. You can use a mixer or do it by hand.

Scoop balls of dough (equal to 3 tablespoons) onto the greased cookie sheet. These will spread out in the oven so make sure they are at least 2 inches apart.

Bake for 10-11 minutes until the edges of the cookies are light golden brown. Move to cookie rack to cool.

While the cookies are cooling make the filling by mixing together the marshmallow cream, shortening and powdered sugar. Spread 1 tbsp of filling on to a cookie and top with another cookie.

Hope you enjoy!

polka-dots and peplum

Hi lovelies, I'm Jenee your guest blogger from {camo meets couture}.
Kristen has kindly let me take over her blog today to share with you some thoughts on the art of getting dressed (if there were such a thing).

When it comes to creating outfits, I love building around a key piece. Whether it's a classic LBD, plain white tee or in this case a fabulous pair of polka-dot pants. Once you know which particular item you'd like to wear, the rest is a simple case of mix and match with a little accessorizing thrown in.

My favorite outfits all tend to have some form of contrast. For instance, pairing a great little dress under an oversize blazer or skinny leather pants with a chunky knit sweater. Casual pieces look great paired with corporate wear, think baseball tees with pencil skirts.

These polka-dot pants are the perfect blend of feminine print with masculine form. In keeping with the 'borrowed from the boys' approach, I paired the pants with a classic button down, cardigan and large structured tote (great alternative to the briefcase). While the oxford shirt is a nod to classic menswear, the peplum cardigan keeps things looking fun and flirty. Add to that a few undone buttons, messy hair, bright lipstick and killer heels for an ultra feminine take on menswear inspired style.

And in true C'est si bon style, a gold bow to complete the look.
Thanks for having me Kristen, and thanks for reading!

The Things We Keep {A. Liz Adventures Guest Post}

Hi ladies, and thank you to sweet Kristen for inviting me to guest post with you today.  I am April of A. Liz Adventures.  My blog chronicles daily lifestyle pretties -- tasty recipes, DIY projects, adventures with girlfriends, married life, you get the gist.

Like Kristen, I am a newlywed.  My husband Ian and I were married at the end of May in 2011.

We have fairly different personalities, which I consider a total life-enricher.  Someone to contribute to this crazy life we are all so fortunate to be a part of.

We also have different (ahem) viewpoints on the things we keep.

I am highly sentimental.  I love memories.  Tangible objects to me are fun ways of relating to a special memory and bringing back a flood of happy emotion.

My husband?  The "toss it" mentality.

We've learned to compromise.  His biggest fear is our home ending up on an episode of Hoarders.  I assure you, I assure you ... we are FAR from this.  Anyone who has been over to our home would laugh uncontrollably about his irrational fear.

But gah, I do love to keep sentimental chotchkies.

Last weekend I took a trip with girlfriends to New York.  I've been posting on my blog about our fun adventures this week.  After mentioning that we lunched one day at the Boathouse in Central Park, a blogging friend asked if Tavern On The Green was still open.

Nope, sadly, they closed in 2009.  But there they are, still in my phone from when my girlfriends and I brunched there in 2005.  Yes, seven years (and at least five phones) later, I still refuse to delete that contact.  Spotting it as I scroll through my phone searching for a friend's number just gives me such a thrill.

And in my desk drawer?  Tucked in between a calculator, business cards, and meeting notes, you'll find a simple unframed photo of Ian and I.  It didn't make the cut to be a framed photo on top of my desk, but this one has a special meaning.  It's the first time that Ian met my parents at our family lakehouse.  We took the boat out and I remember feeling filled with joy at the fact that my new boyfriend was getting along swimmingly well with my parents.  And making them laugh.

I like to keep a pretty clean wallet, but I just couldn't bring myself to trash two receipts.  They are both faded and obviously well-loved.  The top receipt is from a fantastic birthday dinner at Harvest that my friend Kerry and I enjoyed in the Hamptons several years back.  And the receipt from Pink Sorbet is for a gorgeous floor-length Lilly Pulitzer gown that I purchased for our first engagement party in the mountains.

When I clean out my wallet, it brings me joy to see these two receipts.  I fold them again and put them right back where they belong.

I see countless warnings about not letting yourself confuse a memory with a tangible item, but you know what I have to say about that?  Fooey!  I'm a highly visual person, and these items act as memory cues for me.

Please tell me I'm not alone here -- what is something tangible you've kept that has a special significance?

Spring's most colorful accents

Well, hello! My name is Johanna of 101 things i love... I'm thrilled that Kristen asked me to partake in a guest post about my favorite Spring accessories. This is a topic I can get behind because if fashion were a religion, then bright accessories would be my cathedral. Dramatic? Perhaps...but I am all about color in 2012!

I've pulled together my top 5 must-have items for Spring. I hope it brings some sunshine to your day!

the statement necklace: Gotta get one, ladies. It's a game changer even on your most blah days. I just purchased this Stella & Dot gem and I couldn't be more excited to rock it with jeans, maxis, tees...you name it!

the bright bowler: If color-blocking and neon skinnies aren't your thing; it's OK...that's what accessories are for. I love this coral version from Aldo. They make the best handbags with some serious shelf life to keep you on trend.

the espadrille wedge: Every Spring I order 3 pair of inexpensive sandals and wedges from Go Jane. They last the season and bring an unexpected pop to my wardrobe. You can't go wrong and they are the kind of purchase you won't need to hide from the hubs!

the staple scarf: A pretty scarf can make the grayest days a little brighter and are handy when Spring weather is on the fritz of warm/cold. I like this mint version from Modcloth! And we all know that mint and tangerine are the colors of 2012.

matte coral lipstick: Revlon changed my life this winter. I landed on the perfect shade of coral, Hot Coral to be exact. People always ask me if I've gone somewhere when I wear it. It takes my pasty complexion to a more sun kissed look. Magical, I tell you.

Whatdyathink? What are your favorite Spring accessories...do tell?!

Thanks for having me Kristen! Keep up with me on Twitter, too!

daily cup of couture: valentino fall 2012 collection

Hello darlings! It is Caitlin here visiting from Daily Cup of Couture and I must say that I am absolutely delighted to be doing a guest post here on C'est si bon. Given that "Fashion Month" has just come to a close I thought that it would be fitting to post about one of my favorite shows and designers ... Valentino.

Every season I truly look forward to the Valentino show and the Fall 2012 Collection certainly did not disappoint! Although many critics focused on the amount of black leather in the collection, I was most enthralled with the stunning ivory pieces, which each had intricate details. The styles were sweet yet sophisticated and will certainly push many women to wear white well beyond Labor Day!

xx,

Guest Blogger: Smitten Design

Hi C'est si bon readers, I'm Ashley from Smitten Design. When Kristen asked me to guest blog I turned to one of my New Years Resolutions for the topic. Let's discuss thank you notes and the appropriate etiquette to acknowledge gifts. I was raised to write thank you notes for every gift I received. I am so thankful my mom instilled this in me, but I will admit, lately I have slacked in this practice, especially peer-to-peer.

There's really no excuse, if someone puts forth the effort to spend money on you and mail you a gift, the very least you can do is send a hand-written thank you (I preach this to myself).

Etiquette guru, Emily Post, has this to say about thank you's:

  • Wedding or baby shower gifts. After giving shower gifts, the majority of people consider it rude if they don't receive a written note of thanks even if you've given thanks in person.

  • Wedding gifts. Each wedding gift should be acknowledged with a written note within three months of receipt of the gift, even when you've given thanks in person.

  • Congratulatory gifts or cards. Send a note to anyone who sends a present or card with a personally written message to acknowledge an accomplishment, such as a graduation or promotion.

  • Gifts received when sick. Notes should be written when the patient feels well enough, or a relative or close friend can write notes on his or her behalf.

  • Condolence notes or gifts. Send a written thank-you to anyone who sent a personal note, flowers, or a donation. It's fine for a close friend or relative to write notes on the recipient's behalf.

  • Gifts of money. In your note, let the giver know how you'll use a money gift--to furnish your apartment or add to your savings.

  • Holiday and birthday gifts. Write thank-you notes for holiday and birthday gifts as soon as possible, preferably within two or three days. A good standard is to acknowledge Christmas or Hanukkah gifts before New Year's Day.

  • Other gifts. Thank-you notes are not always necessary for presents that have been given in person at a housewarming, going away party, or similar occasion. If a sincere thank-you was expressed in person when the gift was received, that's sufficient.

  • Thank-you gifts. Gifts sent as a "thank you for..." require a note of appreciation in return. It's necessary to let the sender know that the present arrived and is appreciated.

  • Now, there is no shortage of stylish thank you cards. Here's a round up of my favorite:
